MJA Reviews Changing Indications for Liver Transplantation in Australia
A narrative review in the Medical Journal of Australia finds that alcohol-related liver disease and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease have become the leading indications for adult liver transplantation in Australia and New Zealand. Indications have expanded to include selected alcohol-related hepatitis, acute-on-chronic liver failure and extended-criteria malignancies, alongside growing use of machine perfusion to optimise marginal donor grafts.
