ICSID annulment committee closes six-year Korea dispute
An ICSID ad hoc committee rejected a Chinese investor's bid to annul the 2024 tribunal award dismissing his investment treaty claim against South Korea, upholding the finding that his underlying investment was unlawful and therefore outside the Korea-China BIT's protection — closing a six-year, roughly USD 190 million dispute.
IMF: Egypt's economy defies expectations under regional pressure
The IMF credits swift policy responses, strong macroeconomic buffers and exchange-rate flexibility for Egypt absorbing spillovers from the Middle East conflict better than expected, while cautioning that more decisive reform is still needed to unlock stronger private-sector-led growth.
IEA: Hormuz shock pushes electrification to the centre of energy security
A new IEA analysis prepared for COP31 finds that faster electrification — raising electricity's share of final energy consumption from 23% to 33% by 2035 — could cut fuel-importing nations' energy import bills by more than USD 400 billion and oil demand by 18 million barrels a day, as the Strait of Hormuz crisis renews pressure on countries to reduce import dependence.
WHO: DRC's Bundibugyo virus outbreak now the country's largest Ebola outbreak on record
WHO reports 3,626 cumulative confirmed cases and 1,589 deaths across five provinces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo as of end July, surpassing the 2018–2020 outbreak, with insecurity and population displacement complicating an international response that WHO says still needs substantial scaling up.
