Description

As G20 finance ministers and central bank governors close out the Asheville finance-track meetings (August 29 – September 1, 2026) with a stated mandate to modernise financial regulation, improve global debt transparency, and support digital asset innovation, this textbook from Dr. Fatih Buğra Erdem (Social Sciences University of Ankara) delivers a systematic, comparative account of the legal principles governing international banking, finance, and investment activity across the G20 economies. It bridges doctrinal legal analysis with economics and international relations, tracking best practice from bank licensing through to the frontier of cryptoasset regulation.

Key Features

Walks through bank licensing, capital adequacy, and corporate governance requirements as applied across G20 jurisdictions, giving compliance teams a comparative benchmark. Dedicates full chapters to digital and cryptoasset law and to the legal treatment of emerging payment instruments — directly relevant as G20 finance tracks push cross-border payments and digital asset frameworks up the agenda. Sets out the comparative law of securities investment dispute resolution, including ICSID arbitration, for practitioners handling cross-border investment claims.

Coverage

Structure of the financial system; international banking and the establishment and governance of banks; alternative methods in foreign trade financing (factoring, letters of credit); institutions related to foreign payments and financing; digital and cryptoasset laws; international capital market instruments; alternative payment and guaranteeing procedures; credits and payment transactions in international trade; the legal ground of debit and credit cards; methods of resolution of securities investment disputes in comparative law; current debates on emerging trends, including ESG compliance and anti-money laundering.
