Description
Modern Medical Education: Preparing for the Future gives a comprehensive, forward-looking overview of where professional medical education is headed, as healthcare systems and technology push training toward new models faster than curricula typically adapt. Across 41 chapters, an international group of contributors sets out a possible future for one aspect of medical training — from undergraduate and postgraduate curricula to clinical skills, assessment, and the wellbeing of learners — along with the enabling factors, the barriers in the way, and practical suggestions for working past them. The stated aim, in the editors’ own words, is to help “prepare future doctors for modern medicine” while giving educators, institutional leaders, and policy-makers tools to begin changing their own practice.
Key Features
41 chapters organised around the full arc of medical training, built for direct use by three groups: (1) curriculum committees redesigning undergraduate and postgraduate programmes toward flexible, competency-based, lifelong-learning models; (2) faculty-development leads building continuing professional development pathways for educators and structuring simulation- and workshop-based teaching; and (3) institutional leadership and policy-makers planning for medical education in resource-constrained settings and across interprofessional teams.
Coverage
Undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum design; interprofessional education; clinical skills education and assessment; non-technical skills, professionalism and e-professionalism; reflective practice and mindfulness in training; simulation-based education; personalised and lifelong learning; behavioural economics applied to medical education; and medical education in resource-constrained settings, among further chapters covering the learning environment, educator competency development, and the future purpose of medical training.

Why buy this book?
Medical schools and teaching hospitals worldwide are under pressure to modernise training faster than curricula traditionally change, driven by healthcare workforce shortages, competency-based accreditation standards, and the rapid arrival of AI and simulation tools in the classroom.
